40 Hadith

الصَّلَاةُ نُورٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ بُرْهَانٌ، وَالصَّبْرُ ضِيَاءٌ

Prayer is light, charity is proof, and patience is illumination.

Abu Malik al-AshariSahih Muslim

أَوَّلُ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَإِنْ صَلَحَتْ فَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ وَأَنْجَحَ، وَإِنْ فَسَدَتْ فَقَدْ خَابَ وَخَسِرَ

The first matter that the servant will be held accountable for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is corrupt, then the rest of his deeds will be corrupt.

Abu HurairahSunan al-Tirmidhi

صَلُّوا كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي أُصَلِّي

Pray as you have seen me praying.

Malik ibn al-HuwayrithSahih Bukhari

مَنْ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَامَ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ، وَمَنْ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا صَلَّى اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ

Whoever prays Isha in congregation, it is as if he prayed half the night. And whoever prays Fajr in congregation, it is as if he prayed the whole night.

Uthman ibn AffanSahih Muslim

بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَبَيْنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالْكُفْرِ تَرْكُ الصَّلَاةِ

Between a man and disbelief and polytheism is the abandonment of prayer.

Jabir ibn AbdullahSahih Muslim

بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَبَيْنَ الْكُفْرِ تَرْكُ الصَّلَاةِ

Between a man and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer.

مَنْ صَلَّى الْبَرْدَيْنِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

Whoever prays the two cool prayers (Fajr and Asr) will enter Paradise.

أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ

The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating.

مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

Whoever stands (in prayer) in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.

مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ خَرَجَتْ خَطَايَاهُ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَظْفَارِهِ

Whoever performs ablution and does it well, his sins will depart from his body, even from beneath his fingernails.

Uthman ibn AffanSahih Muslim

مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرًا

Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times.

Abu HurairahSahih Muslim

مَنْ قَالَ دُبُرَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، فَتِلْكَ تِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ، وَقَالَ تَمَامَ الْمِائَةِ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، غُفِرَتْ خَطَايَاهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ

Whoever says after every prayer: Subhanallah (33 times), Alhamdulillah (33 times), Allahu Akbar (33 times), making ninety-nine, and then completes one hundred by saying: There is no god but Allah alone with no partner, to Him belongs dominion and praise and He is over all things competent - his sins will be forgiven even if they are like the foam of the sea.

رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا

The two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and everything in it.

AishaSahih Muslim

مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

Whoever stands (in prayer) during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven.

الِاعْتِكَافُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

The Prophet used to observe I'tikaf (spiritual retreat) in the last ten days of Ramadan.

AishaSahih Bukhari

خَيْرُ الصُّفُوفِ لِلرِّجَالِ أَوَّلُهَا، وَشَرُّهَا آخِرُهَا، وَخَيْرُ صُفُوفِ النِّسَاءِ آخِرُهَا، وَشَرُّهَا أَوَّلُهَا

The best rows for men are the first rows and the worst are the last, and the best rows for women are the last rows and the worst are the first.

Abu HurairahSahih Muslim

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ حِينَ تُمْسِي وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ تَكْفِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

Recite Surah al-Ikhlas and the two protective surahs (al-Falaq and an-Nas) three times in the morning and evening, and they will suffice you against everything.

Abdullah ibn KhubaibSunan Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi

فَاتِحَةُ الْكِتَابِ شِفَاءٌ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

The Opening of the Book (Surah Al-Fatihah) is a cure for every disease.

Abu Said al-KhudriSahih Bukhari

مَنْ صَلَّى فِي الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ كَانَ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ خَمْسِينَ رَجُلًا

Whoever prays in the first row will have the reward like that of fifty men.

Ubayy ibn KabSunan Ibn Majah

مَنْ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فَهُوَ فِي ذِمَّةِ اللَّهِ

Whoever prays Fajr is under the protection of Allah.

Jundub ibn AbdullahSahih Muslim

مَنْ صَلَّى الضُّحَى ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ قَصْرًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever prays twelve units of Duha prayer, Allah will build for him a palace in Paradise.

Abu DardaSunan al-Tirmidhi

مَنْ حَافَظَ عَلَى الرَّوَاتِبِ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever maintains the Sunnah prayers regularly, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.

Umm HabibahSahih Muslim

مَنْ مَاتَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوْ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ وُقِيَ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ

Whoever dies on Friday or on the night of Friday will be protected from the trial of the grave.

Abdullah ibn AmrMusnad Ahmad & Tirmidhi

مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ خَرَجَتْ خَطَايَاهُ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَظْفَارِهِ

Whoever performs ablution and does it well, his sins will come out from his body, even from under his nails.

Uthman ibn AffanSahih Muslim

مَنْ غَدَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ أَوْ رَاحَ، أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ نُزُلًا كُلَّمَا غَدَا أَوْ رَاحَ

Whoever goes to the mosque in the morning or evening, Allah will prepare for him hospitality in Paradise every time he goes or returns.

Abu HurairahSahih Bukhari & Muslim

مَنْ صَفَّ لِلَّهِ صَفًّا فِي سَبِيلِهِ صَفَّ اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever straightens a row for the sake of Allah, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.

Abu UmamahSahih Ibn Hibban

إِنَّ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

Indeed, the Night of Qadr is in the last ten nights of Ramadan.

AishaSahih Bukhari & Muslim

مَنْ قَامَ وَرَاءَ الْإِمَامِ فَإِنَّ قِرَاءَةَ الْإِمَامِ لَهُ قِرَاءَةٌ

Whoever stands behind the Imam, the recitation of the Imam is recitation for him.

Jabir ibn AbdullahSunan Ibn Majah

لَا تَعْجَلُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ

Do not rush in prayer.

Abu QatadahSahih Bukhari & Muslim

أَكْثِرُوا مِنَ السُّجُودِ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَسْجُدُونَ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْكُمْ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً

Prostrate much, for there is no prostration that you perform for Allah except that He will raise you one degree and erase one sin for you because of it.

ThawbanSahih Muslim

رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا

The two rak'ahs of Fajr are better than the world and all it contains.

AishaSahih Muslim

مَنْ نَامَ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ أَوْ نَسِيَهُ فَلْيُصَلِّهِ إِذَا ذَكَرَهُ

Whoever sleeps through Witr or forgets it, let him pray it when he remembers.

Abu Said al-KhudriSunan Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi

لَا تَنَامُوا قَبْلَ الْعِشَاءِ

Do not sleep before Isha prayer.

Abu Barzah al-AslamiSahih Bukhari & Muslim

مَنْ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ

Whoever enters the mosque, let him pray two rak'ahs before sitting down.

Abu QatadahSahih Bukhari & Muslim

لَا تُؤَخِّرُوا الْمَغْرِبَ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ النُّجُومُ

Do not delay Maghrib until the stars appear.

Rafi ibn KhadijSahih Muslim

صَلَاةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ تَفْضُلُ صَلَاةَ الْفَذِّ بِسَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً

Prayer in congregation is superior to the prayer of a person alone by twenty-seven degrees.

Abdullah ibn UmarSahih Bukhari & Muslim

مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ تَحْضُرُهُ صَلَاةٌ مَكْتُوبَةٌ فَيُحْسِنُ وُضُوءَهَا وَخُشُوعَهَا وَرُكُوعَهَا، إِلَّا كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا قَبْلَهَا مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ مَا لَمْ يُؤْتِ كَبِيرَةً وَذَلِكَ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ

There is no Muslim who performs an obligatory prayer and perfects its ablution, humility, and bowing, except that it will be an expiation for his previous sins as long as he does not commit a major sin, and this applies for all time.

Uthman ibn AffanSahih Muslim

إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَا يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

When any one of you enters the mosque, he should not sit down until he has prayed two rakats.

Abu QatadahSahih Bukhari & Muslim

بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَبَيْنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالْكُفْرِ تَرْكُ الصَّلَاةِ

Between a man and polytheism and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer.
