21 Hadith

الصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ

Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.

Muadh ibn JabalSunan al-Tirmidhi

اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if with half a date (in charity).

Adi ibn HatimSahih Bukhari & Muslim

تَصَدَّقُوا وَلَوْ بِتَمْرَةٍ، فَإِنَّهَا تَسُدُّ مِنَ الْجَائِعِ، وَتُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ

Give in charity even if it is with one date, for indeed it will satisfy the hungry and extinguish sin as water extinguishes fire.

Abu HurairahMusnad Ahmad

مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ بِعَدْلِ تَمْرَةٍ مِنْ كَسْبٍ طَيِّبٍ، وَلَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا الطَّيِّبَ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَتَقَبَّلُهَا بِيَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ يُرَبِّيهَا لِصَاحِبِهَا كَمَا يُرَبِّي أَحَدُكُمْ فَلُوَّهُ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْجَبَلِ

Whoever gives charity equal to a date from good earnings - and Allah does not accept except what is good - Allah will accept it with His Right Hand, then He will nurture it for its owner, as one of you nurtures his foal, until it becomes like a mountain.

مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ، وَمَا زَادَ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا بِعَفْوٍ إِلَّا عِزًّا، وَمَا تَوَاضَعَ أَحَدٌ لِلَّهِ إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ

Charity does not decrease wealth, Allah does not increase a servant in forgiveness except in honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises him.

Abu HurairahSahih Muslim

عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ صَدَقَةٌ. قَالُوا: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ؟ قَالَ: فَلْيَعْمَلْ بِيَدَيْهِ فَيَنْفَعُ نَفْسَهُ وَيَتَصَدَّقُ. قَالُوا: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَوْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ؟ قَالَ: فَيُعِينُ ذَا الْحَاجَةِ الْمَلْهُوفَ. قَالُوا: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ؟ قَالَ: فَلْيَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ أَوْ الْخَيْرِ. قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ؟ قَالَ: فَلْيُمْسِكْ عَنِ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ

Every Muslim must give charity. They said: What if he cannot find anything? He said: Let him work with his hands to benefit himself and give charity. They said: What if he cannot or does not? He said: Let him help the needy who are distressed. They said: What if he does not? He said: Let him command good or righteousness. He said: What if he does not? He said: Let him restrain from evil, for that is charity.

Abu Musa al-AshariSahih Bukhari & Muslim

تَبَسُّمُكَ فِي وَجْهِ أَخِيكَ صَدَقَةٌ

Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity.

Abu DharrJami at-Tirmidhi

Protect yourself from the Hellfire, even with half a date (in charity).

Secret charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord.

Mu'adh ibn JabalSunan al-Tirmidhi

صَوْمُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ، صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ كُلِّهِ

Fasting three days of every month is like fasting the entire year.

Abu HurairahSahih Bukhari

مَنْ أَمَاطَ أَذًى عَنْ طَرِيقِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كُتِبَ لَهُ حَسَنَةٌ، وَمَنْ كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عِنْدَنَا حَسَنَةٌ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

Whoever removes something harmful from the path of the Muslims, a good deed is written for him, and whoever has a good deed written for him will enter Paradise.

Abu DharrSunan al-Tirmidhi

مَنْ بَنَى مَسْجِدًا يَبْتَغِي بِهِ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ مِثْلَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Whoever builds a mosque seeking Allah's pleasure, Allah will build for him the like of it in Paradise.

Uthman ibn AffanSahih Bukhari & Muslim

أَفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَةِ سَقْيُ الْمَاءِ

The best charity is giving water to drink.

Saad ibn UbadahSunan an-Nasai

إِذَا مَاتَ الْإِنْسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَمَلُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ: صَدَقَةٌ جَارِيَةٌ، أَوْ عِلْمٌ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ، أَوْ وَلَدٌ صَالِحٌ يَدْعُو لَهُ

When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.

Abu HurairahSahih Muslim

مَنْ فَطَّرَ صَائِمًا كَانَ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِهِ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَا يَنْقُصُ مِنْ أَجْرِ الصَّائِمِ شَيْئًا

Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.

Zayd ibn Khalid al-JuhaniSunan al-Tirmidhi

مَنْ سَنَّ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ سُنَّةً حَسَنَةً فَلَهُ أَجْرُهَا وَأَجْرُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ

Whoever sets a good precedent in Islam will have the reward for it and the reward of those who act upon it after him.

Jarir ibn AbdullahSahih Muslim

سَبْعَةٌ يُظِلُّهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ... وَرَجُلٌ تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ فَأَخْفَاهَا حَتَّى لَا تَعْلَمَ شِمَالُهُ مَا تُنْفِقُ يَمِينُهُ

Seven people whom Allah will shade on the Day when there is no shade except His shade... and a man who gives charity and conceals it such that his left hand does not know what his right hand spends.

Abu HurairahSahih Bukhari & Muslim

مَنْ تَصَدَّقَ بِعَدْلِ تَمْرَةٍ مِنْ كَسْبٍ طَيِّبٍ، وَلَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا الطَّيِّبَ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَتَقَبَّلُهَا بِيَمِينِهِ، ثُمَّ يُرَبِّيهَا لِصَاحِبِهَا، كَمَا يُرَبِّي أَحَدُكُمْ فَلُوَّهُ، حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْجَبَلِ
